Microsoft Lumia Phones

Will Lumia 950 and 950 XL Change the Fate of Microsoft Mobile?

Since Microsoft bought Nokia’s technology for $7.2 billion back in 2013, the company has been trying to establish itself as a key player in the mobile industry.

But, despite its high ambitions and rigorous efforts, the corporation has not been able to achieve much success. In the global arena, Windows phones consist of about a mere 2.5% share still! That is certainly not something to be excited about.

Regardless, Microsoft now wants to try its luck once more by releasing two high-end phones: Lumia 950 and 950 XL.

So, the question arises: do the new models have anything great to offer to make a lasting impact? Also, what about their shortcomings?

Let us find out.

The Good:

Make no mistake about it: Lumia 950 and 950 XL are truly high-end phones. It seems that Microsoft has not compromised at all when designing them, or adding features to them.

And that is to be expected, as the company is marketing the devices as its flagship models.

While Lumia 950 sports a 5.2-inch screen, Lumia 950 XL features a 5.7-inch screen. Regarding design, the phones look excellent, and both of them proudly offer a 20-megapixel camera on the back.

Surprisingly, the phones are very lightweight, which makes handling them very easy, and even fun!

Lumia 950 works using a hexacore Snapdragon 808, and its big brother makes use of an octa-core Snapdragon 810. Needless to say, when it comes to performance, both the phones stop at nothing. Both of them come with USB type-C, too.

Overall, it can be said that the new offerings from Microsoft are very attractive, at last.

The Bad:

No matter how amazing the new Lumia phones may be, there are some obvious drawbacks.

The biggest disadvantage is the limited choice of applications they offer. Many big names in the app industry are simply not compatible with Windows devices.

Apart from that, the fact that Lumia 950 comes with a price tag of $549 and Lumia 950 XL for $649 does not make things too rosy for Microsoft, either.

Considering the positives of Lumia 950 and 950 XL, as well as the negatives, it is hard to reach a solid conclusion.

Microsoft has very high hopes for its new offerings, of course. There is no doubt about it. But, will its hopes be rewarded, or tarnished? Only time will tell!
